This is just a quick post because I am proud of Eric and excited for what he did for our family, primarily me!
Last summer I realized that we were going to quickly outgrow our table that seated 8 since we will be adding the ninth member to our family here very soon. So, I began trying to come up with an idea for what we could do for a new table. Since the type of table that I desire is way out of our price range my brother and I came up with a plan to make our own. My brother Aaron is very handy and creative and we scoured and pinned on Pinterest what I would like.
Then in June some one on craigslist had posted that they had an old garage that needed taking down and whoever took it down could keep all the wood. So, Eric and I thought it would be a fun adventure for us to do together and the wood would be used for a chicken coop, or in Eric's desire, a sauna. We spent, or should I say Eric spent, the next month or so of any free time heading over and bringing home this wood. My Dad, Taylor and I also helped going over and getting it, bringing back, and stacking it while Jordan would stay home helping out with the younger ones. The wood consisted of a lot of old ceder siding as well as old 2 by 4's and 2 by 8's, I think. This wood has been sitting outside in piles waiting for us to put our heads together and come up with something useful for us to do with it. Well, last month Eric was really feeling like he needed some much needed rest and due to finances we knew we would not be doing much creative activities on his vacation time. So somewhere in there it popped in to his mind that he would like to try and make my desired kitchen table.
For those of you who know Eric you will know that he has never been much of a wood worker and we have always hired out for what we need in that area. But, this time he felt like he could tackle the task of making us a table with all the wood outside. With my brother's upcoming wedding and my being sick with this pregnancy we figured it would be easiest for Eric to go ahead and try out whatever skills Eric may posses, maybe without him even knowing he possessed them. Over the week of his vacation this is what he snuck out in the garage to work on. And.....This is the final product. I think he is not as incompetent at making things as he has always thought! I still haven't got the rug I want under it or the captain's chairs I desire, but that will come with time. Also, this table seats up to 12 people (if you really squeeze or we are referring to little ones) so we still have room to grow! I hope you enjoy these pictures as we will enjoy the end product hope fully for years to come! P.S Eric said that as much as it was fun to tackle and complete this project he will not quit his day job:)
